Morgan earns ECB contract(04-Mar-2010)

Eoin Morgan has been awarded an increment contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board following his match-winning century against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The Middlesex batsman, 23, automatically earned the deal for 2009-10 after playing six one-day internationals and four Twenty20 internationals for England during the 12-month contract period.

Players not centrally contracted to the ECB can earn an increment deal via a points system.

A total of five points are awarded for a Test appearance and two for a T20 or one-day international appearance, with an increment contract being awarded automatically once the player reaches 20 points.

"Eoin has made excellent progress since making his England debut against West Indies last summer and is now an established member of our one-day and T20 sides," said ECB managing director Hugh Morris.

"He has fully justified the faith the selectors have shown in him and has the potential to develop his game still further."

Morgan was born in Dublin and played 23 one-day internationals for Ireland before switching allegiance to England last summer.
