Tamim and Styris ruled out of one-day series(13-Sep-2010)

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has had wrist surgery which will keep him out of the upcoming one-day international series against New Zealand.

Tamim, who starred on the recent tour of England, had bone fragments removed from the base of his left third metacarpal in Australia on Monday.

Also ruled out of the series is veteran Kiwi all-rounder Scott Styris, who misses out with a back stress fracture.

The series begins on 5 October, with all five games played in Mirpur.

All-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza retains the Bangladesh captaincy, although former skipper Mohammad Ashraful has been dropped following the England tour.

With Tamim missing at the top of the order, left-handed opener Shahriar Nafees returns after two years out of the one-day side.

Styris, 35, who has played 169 one-day internationals, retired from Test cricket more than two years ago but remains a limited-overs specialist for the Black Caps.

He hopes to recover in time for the Kiwis' one-day series in India, which begins at the end of November.

Out-of-form batsman Martin Guptill has been dropped, and is in the New Zealand A squad to tour Zimbabwe - the Kiwis' first tour there since 2005.

Hard-hitting batsman Jesse Ryder returns after an elbow injury, while pace bowler Hamish Bennett is the only uncapped player in the squad.
