Bravo joins Essex for finals day(29-Jul-2010)
West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has agreed a deal to play for Essex on Friends Provident t20 finals day.
Essex, who take on hosts Hampshire in the first semi-final at the Rose Bowl on August 14, had a vacancy for an overseas player after New Zealander Scott Styris returned home.
Bravo's short-term signing is subject to visa approval, although that is not expected to present a problem.
"Obviously Dwayne is a world-class all-rounder and we have lost the services of other big hitters such as Graham Napier and Ryan ten Doeschate," said Essex head coach Paul Grayson.
"We see Dwayne as a like-for-like replacement for (departed overseas player) Scott Styris. He is a top-class player and we hope he can make a major impact on finals day."
Bravo has plenty of experience in the short format, having played 22 T20 internationals and appeared in the IPL for Mumbai Indians and Australia's Big Bash for Victoria.
Meanwhile, Grayson remains hopeful that ten Doeschate will play on finals day.
He added: "Ryan has been doing all he can with the support of the back-room staff.
"If Ryan continues to progress well over the next couple of weeks we can only hope that he has a chance to play his part in finals day.
"We will give him every chance of playing at the Rose Bowl."
